As a fitness coach, over the past few years, people ask me “what type of fitness I teach?”. After going through the different styles of fitness I have taught, I would finally land on my CrossFit coaching. This would put people a bit off, because it is quite intense. But when you get down to the basics of what it is we actually did in the gym, I realized it was-”Making people better versions of themselves”.
Now, that could mean a lot of different things. But to me I would see someone new come to my class, and I would teach them how to push, pull, lift, and just move properly. After a few months of guiding them on their fitness journey. And them putting in a lot of hard work. Over the course of a few months you see these athletes develop into something you could not even imagine! These athletes end up going through a transformation, and I definitely notice the higher energy levels and being more positive in general! Who would have know, with just a few months of hard work, someone could change the entire outlook on life in general!
As a coach you try and help your athletes develop positive life habits that they can take and apply even outside the confines of the gym. I love seeing the development and progress in the gym as they start to master their own body. You can see the alterations happen in two major parts of your athlete's life. These are the physical, and the mental.
I am a firm believer that the weight on the scale, or the size of your body is not your worth! But, when you start a good workout program, you are the first person to notice the physical changes that happen to your body.
Now, we are talking about a few different things that you start to see. First, you notice that the weight is getting easier to move than it was two weeks ago. Or you are the first to notice the extra gain in mobility and your body’s movement pattern. On top of that, the most important, to most people is the way you look! I alway say that you see yourself naked everyday in the mirror after a shower (or whatever way you clean yourself). And as you stand in front of your mirror you notice the subtle, but noticeable changes in your body. And who doesn’t want to look better naked!
As you progress further into a good, and sound workout program, you gain the ability to tackle challenges that you never thought you were capable of! This is one of the biggest drivers for mastering the mental part of your life! When you look at a workout that you think looks impossible and could never finish in a million years. But you PUSH through, and come out on the other side! You bet you’re tired and sweat is everywhere.
But you know what… You finished!
Once you realize you can push through that mental barrier. You start to look at the rest of your life. You look at things in your life that normally you were scared of, or that were too challenging. And you start to re-attack them and look at them from another perspective. Just like in the workout, you just pushed through… one rep at a time… You start to do that everything with your life in general!
Developing, challenging, testing, and pushing every aspect in life.
